NIALL QUINN believes Sunderland will have no problems holding onto their star men in the summer.
Black Cats chairman Quinn reckons the players can see the club moving in the right direction and they will want to be a part of that.
Trinidad & Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones has been Sunderland’s outstanding player this season and there was speculation linking him with a move to a top-four side during the January transfer window.
Nothing came of the rumours and Quinn says that Jones (right) is a key figure in boss Roy Keane’s plans who will be on Wearside for the long haul.
Quinn said: “It can sometimes be hard for clubs to hold onto their players but we would like to think that we are building the right way.
“We’d like to think that Kenwyne buys into that because he is an integral part of the team right now and we want him to stay.
“Without being too big-headed about it, I think things are moving in the right direction and the players want to be a part of that.” Quinn and Keane will be looking to strengthen further in the summer, not part with their prize assets.
“When new signings are made, the players at the club are desperate to stay in the team and not let someone come in and take their place – that’s what the likes of Manchester United have had for years,” said Quinn.
“Everybody here has bought into the ethos at the club.
“And the challenge is for the players here at the club to make sure they stay part of it.”
