Jonny may move to Wearside

by James Hunter, Sunday Sun

Jonny Evans

JONNY EVANS admits that he could be on the move this summer – and a switch to Sunderland would be a tempting prospect.

The Manchester United defender, on loan with the Wearsiders until the end of the season, admits that he has little prospect of playing first team football if he returns to Old Trafford.

He will make up his mind in the summer whether the time is right for him to move on.

And if he does leave Manchester, he says Sunderland would be high on his list of possible destinations after two successful loan spells with the Black Cats and with boss Roy Keane making no secret of the fact he would love to sign Evans on a permanent basis.

“It’s a decision that I haven’t even thought about at the moment,” he said. “I’ll go back to Manchester in the summer and decide then.

“But if I did decide to leave, and if Sunderland came in for me, that would definitely be something I would be interested in.

“If and when the time comes it will be something to be discussed between Manchester United, Sunderland and myself.”

Evans is highly-rated at Old Trafford but accepts that the decision over whether to stay or go could be taken out of his hands this summer if Sir Alex Ferguson decides to cash in on him.

He said: “I might not have any say in it. Sir Alex Ferguson might come to me and say that Sunderland have put a bid in and ask me if I am willing to go.

“We’ll just have to see when the time comes. I don’t know the way that Manchester United are thinking about me, and I don’t know how Sunderland are thinking about me.

“For Sunderland, a lot might depend on whether they stay up or not – there are so many factors that could come into it.

“But coming to Sunderland and playing games in the Premier League has been great for me.”
