Nolan – who bagged his first Toon goal – told the Chronicle: “We’ll just continue to play our football and let that do the talking. “It’s 10 points out of 12, and it’s a fantastic start to the campaign. “We needed a good start, and we’ve got one to build on now.” United fans expected a much tougher assignment in south London at the weekend but were delighted to see their side stun Palace with two goals inside the opening half-hour. Nolan said: “We always knew it was going to be tough as they’re a well-drilled side. “They get the ball in the box, and don’t stop putting the ball in the box. “Maybe at times we could have kept the ball better, but I thought we handled them really well.” With 10 departures over the summer and just one new face in the shape of Danny Simpson, United are starting to look like a team of players who are happy to be at the club and eager to make amends for the ordeal endured by Toon fans last season. And this was summed up by the way they carved the Eagles open on just 99 seconds for Nolan to net. Reflecting on his maiden strike, Nolan said: “There was a bit of a play down the left, and Jonas (Gutierrez) cut inside. “He never normally crosses it, but I shouted to him, and I just put it back across the keeper. “It worked, and I’m delighted to get my first goal for the club – hopefully the first of many. “I always know I’m going to get myself in situations to score, so I’ve just got to keep believing. “With the quality we’ve got in the team, we’re always going to make chances. “I’ve just got to keep getting in Championship and at least two cup games, Hughton concerned that some of his squad members require a breather, despite their outstanding contributions so far. And this means that Geremi, Xisco, Kazenga LuaLua and Tamas Kadar will also come into contention. Hughton added: “I'm quite sure that there will be opportunities for some on Wednesday night. I also have to be mindful we've got a squad of players we need to use.” United will have a selection of pay-on-the-night turnstiles in operation against Huddersfield, with prices as low as £15 for adults, £10 for OAPs and students and £5 for children. |
