Kevin Nolan: I've no regrets on joining United

Sep 3 2009

by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

Kevin Nolan

KEVIN NOLAN has revealed his relief at the closure of the transfer window.

The Scouser was subject of strong interest from Bolton Wanderers as the deadline approached, with under-pressure boss and former Magpies midfielder Gary Megson wanting the former Trotters captain on loan.

However, Nolan is keen to stick to his remit of tasting success at United.

And, unlike several of the departed squad members from last season, he wants to put right the wrongs of last season.

This has been evident in his performances so far, with the full- blooded midfielder a candidate for player of the month following a string of solid displays.

Nolan cut a devastated figure on the final day of last season when United were relegated, but despite the switch from Bolton he says he has no regrets.

Nolan told the Chronicle today: “People say to me all the time do I regret coming to Newcastle – and I tell them every time I don’t regret it for one second.

“I never wanted to leave here.

“This is a new chapter in my life, and I’m still loving every minute of it.

“I’m fortunate to be at a fantastic club.

“It’s still one of the biggest in the country and that’s why I came here.”

United fans ae still clamouring for their tickets for the clash with Cardiff City a week on Sunday, and with the Magpies top of the Championship the tremendous levels of support show no sign of waning, despite the lack of new signings or the political storm in the boardroom at St James’s Park. This led the former Liverpool trainee to say: “We had 43,000 in for a midweek game against Sheffield Wednesday, and that was the fourth highest crowd in the country, and another big crowd against Leicester City.

“Those fans deserve success, whether it be promotion or winning the Championship.

“Hopefully this is just the start for us.”
