Reading’s last visit to St James’s resulted in a 3-0 win for United under Kevin Keegan in April 2008.
But while that game now seems like a lifetime away for beleaguered Toon fans, Enrique hopes to use the game to rekindle some of the good home form from that period to ensure a good start in the Championship this season.
He said: “Against West Brom, we weren’t at our best in the first half but we still created chances.
“Now we have to start against Reading the way we finished the game.
“The second half was very good and after Damien Duff scored, I honestly thought ‘we can win this’.
“It showed we have good footballers who can show their experience in this division.”
And Enrique is looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd.
He says: “It’s always great to play in front of your own fans. We want to get the season off to a great start for them.”
:: UNITED are expecting a 30,000 plus crowd for the game with cash turnstiles in operation, fans can gain admission for a minimum price of £20 for adults and £13 for under-18s in certain sections of the stadium.
