DAVID GINOLA today supported Chris Hughton’s patient approach in the transfer market – despite the fact a clutch of Newcastle United’s top-flight rivals have already pulled off several transfer coups.
The pace of the summer market will pick up on July 1 when several players officially become free agents, although some top-flight sides are already off and running in the transfer race.
Hughton will also have his current crop of players back at the club’s Benton base next Monday as preparations for the Premier League season gather pace.
And even if United haven’t made any additions to their squad in time for the list of pre-season friendlies, Ginola feels that Hughton is right to be cautious.
The flamboyant Frenchman has watched Newcastle squander big money on complete flops before, and doesn’t want to see United repeat the mistakes that resulted in relegation in May 2009.
Ginola told the Chronicle: “What they need now is some stability for the first time in a long time.
“I don’t want to see a change in manager, just some continuity.
“Chris is right not to bring in any player because of their name, he’s got to get the right type of player at the club at this time. The way they can start to rise back to where they belong is by signing the right players.
“There is the old saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and for now they have to forget they aren’t going to be a top-four team.
