Tamas Kadar unhurt after his car crash drama

Nov 16 2009

Tamas Kadar

NEWCASTLE UNITED defender Tamas Kadar narrowly escaped serious injury after the car in which he was travelling collided with a herd of wild boar.

The Hungarian Under-21 international was travelling back from his country’s 2-0 win against Italy with his parents.

The late-night crash happened on the way back from Gyor to his home in the countryside area of Hungary in Veszprem.

The Kadar family vehicle was written off due to the damage caused by the high impact of the crash, and two of the animals were killed.

Earlier that evening Kadar had played a big part in the Magyars’ 2-0 win over the Italian Under-21s, who are now out of the race to qualify for the European Championships.

While Kadar emerged with no injuries from the car crash, he did pick up a slight rib problem during the win over the Italians and will check in with the United medical staff tonight when he returns to Tyneside.

The player’s agent Viktor Kovesdi told the Chronicle: “Tamas played the full game against Italy at left-back.

“He played a very good game and Hungary won 2-0.

“Tamas got the ball from the Italians with a series of tough challenges before both Hungarian goals.

“Unfortunately, after the game he suffered a car accident together with his family.

“His father drove the car back home and it came up against a horde of wild boars.

“Thankfully nobody suffered an injury, but the car was completely damaged and two of the animals died.

“Tamas, his mum and dad did not suffer any injury.

“Tamas was in the back, his father drove and his mum was also in the front.”

Meanwhile, Kadar’s rib injury is not thought to rule him out of contention for a place in the squad for next Monday’s trip to Preston North End at Deepdale.

Kovesdi said: “During the game he suffered a rib injury, but he hopes that it is not serious.

“He will be back in Newcastle tonight.”
