Carroll added: “Obviously I didn’t want to come off. I told Chris that after the game, but he said it was with the Bristol game in mind. “However, I’m happy with the two goals and the win. “We’ve got a couple of days to recover and I know that you can’t play every game or every minute.” And reflecting on his brace, Carroll said: “Danny put a great ball in for me for the first – it’s the same type of cross he puts in during training every day. “I just lost my man and got a free header which I hit across goal and it went in. “For the second one I was able to pull off my man again, that time it was a great long ball from Danny. “I thought my touch was good enough, the keeper came rushing out so the only place to put it was over his head.” Carroll also picked up a yellow card, his seventh caution of the season, for over celebrating, but after ending up in the Gallowgate End after his second he explained: “I couldn’t stop myself to be honest. “I didn’t want to jump into the crowd ideally and it was hard to take getting a yellow card.” Scunthorpe players couldn’t find the exits quick enough after enduring a thorough pasting last night. And it was a far cry from the post-game celebrations at Glanford Park back in October, when the Iron celebrated like they had won a trophy. None of it had been lost on Toon players, though, and Carroll said: “It was in our minds. Everyone talks about that game and we know what went on after it. “We knew, though, that if we played our game we’d beat them.” |
