JONAS GUTIERREZ has revealed he aims to tie up Scunthorpe United in his web tonight at St James’ Park. Spiderman lashed home a wonderful strike in United’s last home game against Barnsley when Geordie fans finally saw the Argentine winger don his super hero mask. And Spidey-fever is beginning to grip Gallowgate, with sales of the masks beginning to escalate on Tyneside and donations from sales also going to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. United supporters are planning to pack out St James’ Park in their key clash with Nottingham Forest at the end of the month, but a delighted Jonas told the Chronicle: “It would be astonishing to see many masks at St James’ Park because the fans have been excellent with me since I came here. “Against Scunthorpe tonight I hope to give them something they can cheer about again. I was very happy with my goal against Barnsley and would be delighted to score one like it against Scunthorpe. “Scunthorpe will enjoy coming to us, but we must make sure they don’t enjoy it all. We know that we are very near to our goal now. “Another win moves us closer to that. “We just have to keep going now.” United go into tonight’s encounter on the back of a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough, a match in which Jonas orchestrated the opening goal for Peter Lovenkrands. Newcastle finished on a high at the Riverside, and Jonas added: “I think we picked up a very good point at Middlesbrough. “When we scored first we expected to go on and win the game, but it didn’t work out like that. “We know that when we keep the ball we can beat any team in this division, but we couldn’t do that for some reason and that’s why they got something out of the game. “At least we got a draw.” |
