CHRIS HUGHTON will offer French winger Fabrice Pancrate the chance to win a deal with Newcastle United as the second string take on Hartlepool United on the big stage at St James' Park tonight.
And Hughton also hinted there may be the arrival of another new face on loan next week.
Hughton believes that the incentive is there for the 29-year-old Pancrate to impress, with the Toon boss also indicating he may still strengthen his squad before the loan window closes at the end of next week.
Pancrate, a former Paris St Germain and Real Betis winger, has been on trial with the Magpies since last week after failing to secure moves to Sheffield United and Burnley this season.
Hughton told the Chronicle: “We had him for three days last week and we need to take a look at him, which we’ll do in the reserves tonight.
“It’s always difficult when somebody has only had three days of training at a time when some of the squad are away on international duty.
“We’ve been working in smaller groups, but we are keen to have a look.”
And with the loan market about to close for business until next year, Hughton added: “I don’t anticipate bringing anybody in – but people who we are interested in may well become available before the window shuts.
“What we plan to do is assess our options.
“I wouldn’t rule it out completely.”
UNITED fans can see Pancrate play for FREE tonight in the Totesport.com Reserve League Northern Division clash with Hartlepool United, kick-off 7pm.
