FITZ HALL is relieved he does not have to mark Andy Carroll apart from in training.
The Geordie striker goes into the clash at Bristol City in red-hot form on 14 goals and bidding to be top scorer for the Magpies.
The big defender believes Carroll is becoming “a real handful” – and has the potential to emulate some of Alan Shearer’s success at Newcastle United.
Hall played against Shearer during his Crystal Palace days and told the Chronicle: “I would say that Andy is just as big a threat because he is much taller and that is all you are going to look for.
“Alan was probably more of a strong guy who would get his body there, but Andy will come over and overpower you.
“It is frightening when he peels to that back post. You know you are in trouble because you know he is going to climb all over you.
“You also know if he gets the ball on his head he will hit the target.”
Carroll bagged another bullet header against Scunthorpe, and almost grabbed his hat-trick with another that flew just over the bar.
Hall feels the Robins will have their hands full with the in-form striker tomorrow night at Ashton Gate.
He added: “Andy is probably one of the best headers of a ball I have seen. He is good enough with the ball at his feet and he leads the line well.”
Looking ahead to the final 10 games of the season with United during his loan spell from Queens Park Rangers, Hall added: “We are counting them down and looking to tick each game off with a win.
“We have done well in recent weeks and it is up to us to make the most of our last 10 matches.
“Hopefully, we can pick up another win at Bristol City.”
