CHRIS Hughton has hinted that trialist Fabrice Pancrate has done enough to earn himself a permanent contract at Newcastle United after declaring himself "impressed" with the French winger's debut in black and white.
The United boss will continue to monitor the former Paris St Germain forward in training this week but Pancrate did his chances no harm with a solid 80 minute run-out in the 3-2 reserve team defeat of Hartlepool United last night.
He tired as the game wore on but played a part in United’s first two goals and generally looked lively on the right-hand side of midfield.
Hughton, who observed Pancrate from his seat alongside managing director Derek Llambias in the stands, was full of praise for the winger and said he had been given assurances that funds are in place if he decides to offer him a contract.
“He did well. We really wanted to see him in a game so we gave him the opportunity this evening. He will be training with us for the next few days and that will give us a chance to have a real good look at him.
“We already have great quality on the right-hand side with Ryan Taylor, Jonas and Danny Guthrie but he could offer us something different with his pace.
“His biggest asset is his experience – he’s played in a couple of positions, is good on the ball, works hard and I enjoyed watching him tonight.”
