GEORDIE BOY Andy Carroll has warned Preston North End he will return to Deepdale hoping to show them what they are missing.
The England Under-21 ace returned to the Toon’s Tyneside base today from international duty, revved up and ready to take on the Lilywhites.
Carroll, like David Beckham as a youngster, was farmed out on loan to Preston in 2007 as a raw teenager and netted just once in 11 matches.
The Geordie was also infamously sent off at Scunthorpe United in a painful 2-1 loss back then and, by his own admission, says the experience was a learning curve.
Now looking ahead to the clash on Monday night, the former Deepdale loanee told the Chronicle: “I looked for the Preston fixture – they’re the only team I looked for.
“When I went there I was 18, so obviously I was young.
“ I played a few games for them, which I was happy with.
“Being in and around the first team was a different experience to what I’d had here, and I learned a great deal.
“I was happy I went there, even though I didn’t really play as many games as I wanted to.
“Now I go back there more experienced and looking to show what I can do.
“Obviously I want to add to my goal tally.”
Former United Academy chief Alan Irvine is now in charge at Deepdale and Carroll added: “He changed a lot of things at Preston, and I’m not surprised they’re doing well.”
