Volvo is taking advantage of the scrappage scheme to introduce price reductions of as much as a whopping £6,800 off the cost of its cars.

While many manufacturers are matching the Government's £1,000 contribution, Volvo is contributing more than six times as much, which is probably more than that of any other car company.

This will enable anyone trading in a qualifying car to drive away in a new Volvo C30 1.6 R-DESIGN with £3,849 off the list price or a Volvo XC90 D5 AWD Active with £6,840 off.

These offers are available across the range including all the DRIVe-badged models.

Drivers determined to lower their environmental impact can get a C30 DRIVe featuring Start/Stop technology with a reduction of £4,027. The S40 DRIVe S with Start/Stop comes with a saving of £4,377.

The offers are not just available on the smaller models. The new Volvo S80 DRIVe SE comes with a saving of £5,210 off the list price, while the Volvo XC60 2.4D DRIVe is available with a £4,640 saving. On an XC90 seven-seat SUV that saving becomes £6,840.

With the DRIVe cars' excellent environmental performance owners also benefit from other financial incentives.

The C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe models with Start/Stop all qualify for £35 a year VED thanks to the ultra-low CO2 output of 104g/km, while an impressive fuel consumption figure of up to 72mpg on the combined cycle enables the cars to run up to 800 miles on a full tank of fuel.

The Volvo V70 and S80 DRIVe models are equipped with the 1.6-litre diesel engine with specially-tailored engine software and modified gear ratios in third, fourth and fifth.

The optimised powertrain helps Volvo's larger cars to significantly cut their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, with up to 57mpg and 129g/km.

The Volvo XC60 and XC70, in their new front-wheel drive guise and mated to the new 2.4D engine offer emissions of just 159g/km and economy of up to 47mpg.

These CO2 figures enable all the Volvo DRIVe models to fall below the 160g/km threshold for company car users.
