Mazda is taking a route followed by some of the other manufacturers in offering additional incentives on top of the standard scrappage scheme.
This makes their smaller models particularly attractive, although some of the savings higher up the Mazda range are considerable.
In certain cases a discount of up to six grand can be available. The various deals also gave Mazda its biggest ever sales total in a single month during September, shifting 11,135 vehicles.
The Mazda2 is a typical example of the company's Zoom-Zoom policy.
It is a nippy supermini with agile handling. It should also be ultra reliable.
With a starting price of £7,295 under the scrappage scheme, the entry-level Mazda2 TS (with air-conditioning as standard), represents decent value.
Moving up the range, you could use the discounts to buy a better equipped TS2 model, starting at £8,295 or the Sport model for £9,995.
A new 1.6-litre diesel engine is available in the Mazda2 Sport in both 3dr and 5dr body styles, offering a potential for 67.2mpg. Prices for the 1.6D Sport 3-door, will start at £11,495, although you can have an extra pair of doors for a further £400.
Mazda's UK sales and marketing director Mark Cameron said: "Models such as the Mazda2 are attracting the most scrappage scheme interest, bringing a new Mazda into range for an increasing number of motorists."
Elsewhere in the Mazda range, there are some tempting offers available.
The Mazda3 was already decent value, but under the scrappage scheme, Mazda is knocking £3,000 of this smart hatchback and saloon, meaning you can buy one for £10,500 (1.6S 5-door.)
There is also three grand off the price of the Mazda6 saloon, hatchback and estate, and the same figure off the Mazda MX-5, giving you wind in the hair motoring and as much fun as you can handle, for £13,345.
If you fancy the Mazda5 MPV, you can get £4,000 knocked off, and if you want to buy one of the best sports coupes available anywhere in the UK, you will get a whopping £6,000 sliced off the price of the Mazda RX-8 R3, bringing it down to a hugely attractive £18,478.
The various deals also gave Mazda its biggest ever sales total in a single month.
