When Kia first arrived on these shores, their main selling point was price. They undercut much of the opposition.
You got more for your money. Today however, things have changed and Kia can quite rightly say that their cars now sell on style, function and, yes, still on price.
Take the Kia Soul for example. Nothing looks like it. And the scrappage scheme allows you to get into a brand new car at a reduced price.
With a £2,000 saving, the entry level Soul 1.6 can be yours for £8,775.
You'll end up with a spacious family car that can be extensively personalised.
Early indications are that, due to the appealing, funky looks, it will hold onto its value reasonably well too.
When the Kia Cee'd arrived in the UK, it marked Kia's arrival as a manufacturer that made cars to a decent, European standard.
They also felt sufficiently confident to sell the car with a seven-year warranty which, to a lot of people, is enough of a reason to buy a Cee'd in any case.
Factor in the £2,000 scrappage scheme, and you can get the latest Cee'd model for £7,995 which represents a bargain. You get a family car at supermini prices.
The scrappage scheme has been a significant success for Kia in the UK, as 98.8 per cent of its scrappage sales have been conquest, meaning that over 16,500 new customers are experiencing Kia for the first time.
From Kia's point of view, the scheme could not have come at a better time.
Take the Pecanto for example. Thanks to the £2,000 savings, you can buy one for under five grand; £4,495 to be precise. The Rio comes in at £5,495.
Kia has also built a reputation for selling competent MPV and 4x4 cars.
The Carens is a spacious MPV that allows you to carry seven people. £10,495 is the starting point for this model under the scrappage scheme.
The diesel version is particularly good, starting at £12,995.
If you need a chunky 4x4, then under the new scheme and with various discounts provided by Kia, you will get £6,700 slashed off the recommended retail price of a Kia Sorento, making the entry level version available for a staggering £13,995.
