One of the greatest beneficiaries of the scrappage scheme is Hyundai, which is claiming a remarkable share of virtually a fifth off all cars bought since the scheme was introduced.
This amounts to more than 10,000 new Hyundais registered out of the 60,000 total, with the best seller being the Hyundai i10 with sales of virtually 6,500.
The other two big sellers are the Hyundai i20 and i30, giving Hyundai a whopping sales increase so far this year of almost 40%.
The entry-level i10, complete with air conditioning and a new 77bhp 1.2-litre engine, costs just £4,995 with the scrappage allowance of £1,000 from the government and £1,100 from Hyundai.
The larger i20 three-door costs just £5,995 including £1,000 from the government and £1,200 from Hyundai.
Hyundai UK managing director Tony Whitehorn says: "We are only too happy to show potential buyers how a new Hyundai is within their reach."
The UK company has replicated the success of Hyundai in the German market where a scrappage scheme has been in place since January and Hyundai sales have soared by 140%.
Mr Whitehorn added: "We have just had a delivery of 800 of the Hyundai i10 and i20 models. We are negotiating with the factory to secure more production and keep up with the expected demand.
This is a great opportunity for car buyers to move up to a cleaner, safer and more reliable new car."
Many Hyundai showrooms are extending their working hours in order to process the orders, prepare the cars and ensure the new owners can take delivery at a convenient time.
Mr Whitehorn, added: "Scrappage has given an opportunity for ten million drivers to upgrade their old car to a cleaner, safer and more reliable new car.
Thousands of them are grabbing the opportunity and they are choosing Hyundai."
The most popular model is the i10 by a wide margin, especially the entry-level Classic trim or the new special edition ES.
Scrappage prices start at £4,995, including air-conditioning and Hyundai's famous five-year warranty.
The newly-launched i20 is in high demand too, with scrappage prices for this range starting at just £5,995.
Mr Whitehorn added: "Scrappage schemes have been running in Europe for a few months and we used our experience there to make sure we were prepared for the sales boom in the UK.
"What has come as a surprise is that demand from non-scrappage buyers has also more than doubled in the past two moths.
It seems that people are getting into car-buying gear."
