These hats are ready to fascinate

Fascinators are becoming a wedding accessory favourite. The aptly named Hatties in Stockton has lots to choose from. SARAH DALE talks to owner Dorothy Homer to find out more. THE Duchess of Cornwall inspired Dorothy Homer's move into designing and making her own fascinators. "When Prince Charles and Camilla got married, a woman came into the shop wanting one so I made her one and it snowballed from there," says Dorothy, who has owned Hatties in Stockton since 1999. The shop, on Oxbridge Lane, stocks outfits for the mother of the bride and offers a hat hiring service. Hatties has about 150 fascinators, of all colours and designs. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT "Customers have the choice of hiring the fascinators or buying them," says Dorothy, who has 25 years' retail experience. "It takes me about four hours to make one. I buy the materials in and it has to be cut and dyed to the right colour. I then hand stitch it and glue bits on it." Prices range from £10 to £40 to hire and from £20 to £50 to buy one while hats are £10 to £60 to hire.
