One in three British couples going on holiday in February end up agreeing to get married.
According to a recent survey of 4,000 people by AA Insurance, there is a growing trend towards men proposing to their partner while on holiday in the Valentine month of February.
Many admitted they had already bought a ring before popping the big question, even though there was no guarantee that a wedding proposal would be accepted.
Reasons for proposing abroad included wanting somewhere more romantic than Britain to make the occasion more memorable.
With the average UK wedding now costing £16,000 - 50% more than in 1998 - those proposing this month will need deep pockets.
While most brides and grooms still prefer the traditional white church wedding, more and more are opting to marry in a hotel, stately home, castle or other non-religious venue and around 11% are now getting married abroad.
Many people choose to spend the whole day under one roof - and with so many beautiful venues across the North-East there is plenty of choice.
Brides and grooms-to-be can now trawl the internet for venues before narrowing down their choice and opting to visit the three or four on their shortlist.
