AND so 2007 is nearly at an end. Only the hell that is New Year’s Eve to contend with. The Young Uns will be out there a Hell Raising and a Percy Filthing. The middle aged amongst us will just drink to forget. Old ’uns just go to bed before midnight. And who can blame them?
Another year. A year with, as always, more lows than highs.
I look back on my column of last January and am genuinely pleased by how accurate I was. I forecast another disappointing year on the regional football front. While many were predicting cup triumphs and European football, I was right and we remained, broadly, rubbish.
I sense there’s more to come on the mediocrity front. I predict many pledges to come. Managers and key players will issue their pledges at an astonishing rate. They’ll pledge No More Performances Like Last Week . . . We’re All Behind The Boss . . . Next Season Will Be A Different Story . . . Wait Till The Injured Players Come Back.
