Keeping buyers up to date

Jan 19 2008

by Susan Taylor, The Journal

A GREAT deal of attention is paid to first-time buyers, but people moving up the property ladder often don’t get their fair share of help, according to one builder.

Barratt sales adviser Helen Peverell said: “There’s always this assumption that move-up buyers don’t need as much help as first-time buyers, which is quite often not the case.

“Many families probably only move house a handful of times in their whole lives, while the housing market is moving all the time, so buyers can have a pretty hard time keeping up with all the changes and understanding the new jargon. That’s why I always make sure my buyers are kept up to date every step of the way – and if they don’t understand something I explain it.”

At her current development, Saxonfields in Kirk Merrington, near Bishop Auckland, Helen predominantly sells homes to families and her experience of working in the housing market means she has good skills for guiding people through the ever-changing world of property purchase.

Helen is now selling a range of family housing at Barratt’s Saxonfields development where three, four and five-bedroom homes are priced from £201,000.

One of Barratt’s long-standing family favourites is the four-bedroom detached Ripon priced from £208,500. The ground floor features an entrance hall with staircase and it leads off into a bay windowed lounge, a separate dining room can seat up to eight people and has French doors into the back garden.

Adjoining the lounge is a fitted breakfasting kitchen with seating for four.

Upstairs the master bedroom has an en suite shower room while two more double bedrooms and a single bedroom share the family bathroom. There is an integral garage.
