Stars and their size

Feb 17 2008

by Pauline Holt, Sunday Sun

LOVE ’em or loathe ’em, envy or desire them, celebs are always under the spotlight and have to look fantastic on the red carpet . . . and even when nipping out to the shops.

They’re first in the queue to try fashionable or faddy diets, the latest exercise regimes, and get advice from an army of personal trainers, dieticians, beauticians.

For them, staying slim is a religion. Not being able to slip into that little Versace number for an A-list opening night could result in the ultimate horror . . . obscurity.

Now a new book, Famous People Don’t Get Fat, by Adele Parker, reveals the more down- to-earth health tips and personal slimming secrets of the famous.

So if you’re bored with the grind of calorie counting — and can’t resort to airbrushing to banish weight or wrinkles — why not be inspired by Goldie Hawn, Jennifer Aniston or Liz Hurley?

Let’s go star-gazing for tips, and a diet to suit you . . .

JENNIFER ANISTON

Jen’s a fan of high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets and aims to keep to a ratio of 40 per cent carbohydrate, 30pc protein, and 30pc fat to maintain her slinky figure.

Since following it, she’s said: “It was amazing to see this other body emerge. I never knew I had it in me.”

Her example has led friends such as Matt LeBlanc, Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Perry and Winona Ryder to copy the plan.

VICTORIA BECKHAM

Mum-of-three Victoria admits that, during her third pregnancy with Cruz, she became addicted to fatty food.

Her tip for shedding those post-baby pounds — in her case invisible to the naked eye . . . she reportedly has a 23-inch waist and is a UK size four — is to follow a Mediterranean diet which she discovered while living in Spain.

She included lots of fresh vegetables and salads, olive oil, paella, and omelettes and some meaty dishes so the whole family enjoyed it.

Husband David has said: “I make sure she eats well and she eats healthy.”

A typical Posh menu . . .

Breakfast: Two slices chilled melon sprinkled with lemon juice. Small portion Spanish tortilla served with sliced fresh tomato.

Lunch: Gazpacho with fresh bread rolls.

Dinner: Cauliflower salad Nicoise. Chuletas — Spanish steaks — and higos borrachos, otherwise known as brandied figs.

GOLDIE HAWN

The Hollywood star is 62 but still has an enviable figure.

Refreshingly, she’s said: “I like that I got an ugly girl’s personality. In other words, a homely girl always has to develop that muscle. And I did. But the good news is that I never considered myself beautiful at all . . . I still don’t.”

As well as working out in her home gym, she follows a wheat-free, sugar-free and dairy-free diet and swears by “green juice”, made from celery, kale, parsley and green peppers. Or try “Slimmer’s Juice” . . . two apples, two carrots, topped and tailed, two tomatoes, watercress, and a handful of spinach.

LIZ HURLEY

Legend has it that model, actress, and mother-of-one, Liz, 42, claimed snacking on a banana or six raisins helped keep her enviably trim. But the reality is now revealed . . . watercress soup.

She says: “It’s fatless, low calorie, full of vitamins and iron and delicious enough to serve at a dinner party.”

There’s a seven-day diet based around this soup, which claims to result in a loss of 4.5kg (10lbs) without hunger pangs. But it’s intensive and should not be followed for more than seven days.

V Famous People Don’t Get Fat, by Adele Parker, is published by John Blake Publishing, priced £6.99.

SLIM HIPS TIPS

V ANGELINA JOLIE staves off hunger pangs by snacking on low-fat breakfast cereals. Her favourite? Cheerios.

V JENNIFER LOPEZ’S secret is eating healthily but “little and often”. She eats eight mini-meals a day to keep energy high and hunger at bay. She also practises a martial art used by the Israeli army, Krav Maga.

V SKIPPING breakfast can be a disaster and those who do are more likely to be overweight. Paris Hilton has porridge for breakfast to keep her feeling satisfied until lunchtime.

V FORMER EastEnder, Natalie Cassidy — who played Sonia Fowler — keeps home-made soup in the fridge so that she can have that as a late-night snack rather than tempting junk food.
