THERE’S something distinctly 1950s retro — and downright decadent — about this hand cream. The 75ml pot of Nulon Overnight Hand Treatment Cream, costing £4.49, comes complete with cotton gloves, and the idea is that you apply the cream at bedtime, pop on the gloves and then, while you’re sleeping, the wheatgerm and sweet almond oil is busily putting back moisture taken out during the day. The gloves ensure the cream is fully absorbed to get the maximum moisturising effect but I must confess it feels a little strange snuggling under the duvet with them on, and I gave up after a couple of tries. But I’m keeping the cream by my bedside and my hands are the better for it, gloves or no gloves. Available from Superdrug, Asda and Waitrose. PAUL MITCHELL Color Protect daily shampoo and conditioner are an absolute must-have on my bathroom shelf. I even found myself feeling mildly panicked when I realised I was down to the last dregs of my conditioner the other day. Quite simply, this is the best shampoo and conditioner I have ever tried. It is fairly pricey but worth every penny, and I tend to alternate it with a cheaper product to eke it out. It seems — at the risk of sounding like the promotion blurb — to lock moisture into your hair and reinvigorate it. Unlike some colour care shampoos and conditioners, it doesn’t leave my hair full of static or with a heavy/greasy feeling, but makes it glossy and healthy looking. And it smells lovely too. I defy anyone not to have a good hair day after using these. Available from selected hair salons. Call 0845-6590012 for your nearest one. Shampoo costs £7.50 for 300ml and £3.60 for 100ml, while the conditioner is £9.75 for 300ml and £4.50 for 100ml — CAROLINE SMITH BILLED as the first anti-ageing moisturiser to protect the skin from damaging sun while giving a healthy sun-kissed glow, Olay’s Total Effects 7x Touch of Sunshine sounds too good to be true and, quite frankly, it is. The moisturiser, £16.99, is not a patch on their other anti-ageing products, of which I am a devoted fan, and left my skin feeling greasy and a tad tangerine-looking. If Olay tweaked the tanning element of the moisturiser they could be on to a real winner, saving the busy woman from using two separate products, but for now I’m sticking to my trusted fake tan — ELEANOR GREGSON |
