IS your make-up bag crying out for a spring clean? There are lots of newcomers on the beauty counters that will instantly update your look if you’re tiring of those wintry shades. New York fashion designers Traver Rains and Richie Rich — the boys behind the Heatherette fashion label — have joined forces with M.A.C cosmetics to create a whole new range of make up. In the past, the pair have crafted sequinned and studded mini dresses for Shirley Manson and Paris Hilton, neon tattered Ts for Pink and Justin Timberlake, and one-of-a-kind looks for David Beckham, Alicia Keys and Britney Spears. Their brand of so-called “trash and flash” fashion isn’t for shrinking violets, and neither is this range. Packaged in hot pink cases with the Heatherette logo emblazoned across, the make-up is dramatic and glittery. The lipsticks, £11, have names such as Fleshpot and Hollywood Nights and there are funky eye colours like style minx, £10.50, a frosted fuchsia pink, and starlet kiss, a more pastel pink option. Our tester Sarah Robertson tried the Beauty Powder in Alpha Girl, £15.50. She said: “The packaging is young and funky . . . perfect for girls about town. “It would make a great teenager present but I’m a twentysomething and I’m loving it too. “The powder has a luxurious feel to it that gives a velvety, sheer pink tint with a touch of gold. You can use it sparingly for daytime wear or pile on the powder for evening glamour.” A NEW lippy from Clarins is always a treat, and their latest offering Joli Rouge, £14.50, will hit counters in the coming weeks. The range has 14 different shades promising long-lasting colour with a glossy shine. But they don’t just look good . . . they do you good. Mango butter is the magic ingredient here, offering nourishment and protection. There are also collagen boosters and vitamin E in there, so the more you use this lipstick the more luscious your lips should become! It also tastes great, with a delicious blackcurrant flavour and fragrance topped off with liquorice and vanilla. Yum! WEAR your heart on your sleeve with Mood Swings, an “emotionally active” lip gloss from Too Faced cosmetics, £12. It apparently boasts a secret formulation that comes out of the tube completely clear and develops into numerous shades of pink, from cotton candy to deep fuchsia, depending on the wearer’s emotional state . . . your mood changes will be visible on your lips! With ingredients such as jojoba oil to rejuvenate, shea butter to restore elasticity and vitamin E, your lips will be well cared for. Borderline Lip Liner, £11, a colourless lip pencil, can be applied before Mood Swing to keep your pout in perfect shape. Available from Boots. |
