A recent study says high heels can't be blamed for contributing to osteoarthritis of the knee.
But they can certainly be blamed for causing the calf muscles to shorten, if worn extensively, as it is effectively like walking around on tiptoes.
If you already have knee issues, you will almost certainly find that heels exacerbate them.
As well as throwing the body weight out of alignment, they put extra strain on the lower back and heightening the force through the kneecap bay as much as 23%.
If you are walking or standing for long periods, give high heels a miss.
