Angelina Jolie made her first film, Lookin' To Get Out, with dad John Voight when she was aged five. She went on to win an Oscar for her portrayal of a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted.
Famous for her recent, short-lived marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton, she joined the Hollywood Instant Mum Club last year when she adopted a Cambodian baby boy, named Maddox.
The 5ft 7in, 28-year-old actress has always felt that she looks like a Muppet! She says her ample bosom (36C) has its drawbacks.
"My breasts do get in the way of action movies. I'm not knocking them, it's just that they kind of restrict my movements at times."
Angelina has a number of tattoos, including a box design on her lower hip and a Chinese dragon on her left arm. She has the Latin words quod me nutrit me desuit (what nourishes me also destroys me) on her stomach, and beside this inscription is a black sideways cross. There is also a small 'h' on her left wrist (she is left-handed and the 'h' stands for her brother Haven), and two tribal designs on her backside.
She says her favourite body feature is the way her veins take shape on her forearms.
When she was first offered the role of high-kicking, fast-shooting virtual action heroine Lara Croft, Angelina admits she was not in the best shape.
"From the moment I got up in the morning I had to drink a certain amount of water, take vitamins and start training properly under the keen eye of trainer Josh Salzmann."
Angelina insisted on doing most of her own stunts as Lara and injured herself more than once. She also did some kick-boxing, pumping iron and yoga. And, to her credit, she gave up smoking and hasn't touched cigs since.
Angelina tries to eat sensibly now that she's delighted with her Lara Croft body. But she admits she has to be very strong when passing her favourite burger bar.
"I'm learning to cook because I see such wonderful recipes in the cook books."
Her favourite drinks are tequila and tea.
Love life
She was first married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller. They divorced in 1999 after four years together.
Then, after a whirlwind courtship, she married Billy Bob Thornton in Las Vegas in 2000. It was his fifth marriage and it lasted until summer last year.
More recently it has been reported that Angelina is trying to get back with Trainspotting star Jonny.
