Treatment plan that has saved Veronica a fortune Veronica Baron has saved a fortune on her teeth since joining Denplan eight years ago. In that time she has had hundreds of pounds worth of treatment, including bridgework and crowns. Yet she has paid no more than her monthly Denplan fee for the work. The 53-year-old retired nurse, who now works as a volunteer bereavement counsellor for Macmillan, is a patient at Simpson Nisbet Dental Surgery in Jesmond, Newcastle. Eight years ago John Simpson decided to take his practice private with the exception of children. He teamed up with Denplan and encouraged Veronica, who has suffered a lifetime of problems with her teeth, to join the scheme. While she has seen her monthly premiums rise form £15 to £29.51, she has never begrudged paying the cash. "I have got so much out of Denplan," she says. "I've had some horrendous problems and all it has cost me is my monthly fee." Now Veronica's family have been encouraged to join the scheme. Husband Les, 63, a pharmacist, joined two years ago, and daughters Jennifer, 26, also a pharmacist, and Stephanie, 23, a hotel receptionist, have also come on board. The Barons, who live in Jesmond, now pay £75.78 a month for family cover. "Jennifer and Stephanie both have good teeth, so for them being in Denplan has only been of limited benefit to date, but it has helped Les," Veronica says. "In December he had appalling toothache and Mr Simpson opened the surgery on Christmas Eve and extracted the tooth. "Everything is paid for on Denplan except laboratory work. Maybe for people who don't have problems with their teeth, dental cover would be a waste of time, but for me it's really worked." ********** What plans cost Capitation schemes: Denplan Care, £16 average per month.
