Whats the one thing you need while holidaying in the sun or lazing on a British beach?

A fabulous new bikini! Sarah Ivison checks out the new styles this summer.

Bikini sales have soared since the screening of Celebrity Love Island, according to a lingerie company.

(left) Boden bikinis: Rose bow bikini vest £25 and bow bikin pants £19. Clemetis top £22 and pants £19. (right) Magenta jewelled bikini from Florence and Fred at Tesco, top £18 bottoms £6.

The island's scantily-clad stars - including Abi Titmuss and Geordie winner Jayne Middlemiss - showcased a variety of bikinis on the exotic reality TV show.

And it has led to a boom in summer sales, according to online retailer Figleaves.com

A spokesperson for www.figleaves.com says: "Sales have doubled compared to the same time last year."

The website even set up a Celebrity Love Island Bikini Watch in which they invited visitors to the site to rate the different celebrities' styles.

Key swimwear colours this season include black and white, chocolate browns, turquoise and hot pink.

Fifties influence is reflected in gingham, polka dots, halter necks and frills.

The Seventies influence is also seen with metallics, string ties, ring details and cut-outs.

Suits to suit

Pear shapes

If your problem areas are thighs and tummy, then you want a bikini that draws attention to your upper body. Try bold prints like florals or stripes, with plain deep-sided bottoms in darker shades.

Big bust

If you're top-heavy, it's essential to get the right support. Tankinis with built-in support provide control and added cover. Block colours are best but they don't have to be boring - this year sees lots of cool aquas and hot pinks.

Petite figures

Petite women tend to have small busts, which can be shown off. Flaunt cleavage with a deep plunge top or padding for uplift and support. Tropical inspired prints, beading and frills will add extra sizzle on the beach.

Boyish shapes

Add curves with low-rise bikini bottoms to flatter a toned stomach, or try a belt detail like Bond Girl Ursula Andress. You could also opt for detailing around the back like ruffles.
