Safari style is huge in the fashion world this season . . . and we're not talking khaki twin sets and poacher hats.
Forget dreary old Ray Mears and add spice to your wardrobe by kitting yourself out in shorts, chunky jewellery, big belts and lots of layers. The colour palette for this popular trend is great for all shapes, sizes and skin tones, so there is no reason for anyone to miss out. Muted browns and soft golds can be mixed with khaki, blue and orange. Neutral tones are given depth when integrated with blacks, rich chocolate browns and leafy greens. Inject sharp colour with mustard yellows, a vibrant red and petrol blue. If you are a little reluctant to bare your pins this spring, then try knee-length shorts or culottes in black or dark brown for a more flattering look. Both Warehouse and French Connection stock great examples for £25 and £65 (pictured above). Alternatively, go for longer length skirts in safari colour tones. For those of you who do love to show as much leg as possible, then the high street has some great "short" shorts available, too. Choose from belted, turn-ups or simple tailoring. If skirts are more your thing then head for simple minis in muted colours or worn-look denim. Simple layering is the key to this look. Whether you choose to layer dresses over shorts, or vests and shrugs, it's a great way of keeping warm in the spring chill, or keeping cool by shedding items when the sun comes out! We love this khaki shirt dress from Oasis at £35, which looks fabulous either worn on its own with a chunky belt and over-sized bangles, or left open over a vest and shorts.
For a simple yet stunning look, Kookai designers offer this gorgeous uneven-hem skirt for £40 (pictured above). We've teamed it with an apple- green knit vest from French Connection and embellished the look with lots of shimmering jewellery and ethnic sandals. Add a splash of colour with this vibrant red crochet detail top from Kookai at £40 and layer with a button camisole. Add diamante sandals - £49.99 from Office - and a stunning leather satchel bag. Leather and animal print are a great addition to this particular trend and Kookai again excel themselves with this beautifully soft leather corset for £150. We've teamed it with simple culottes and a short-sleeved safari-style jacket from Warehouse, £45. Add a fedora hat trimmed in animal print and a selection of wooden and metal bangles. Accessories come in the form of colourful beads, big silver and brass pendants, wooden and gold bangles, leather sandals, bags and belts. So if you are not planning any holidays this year, then let your wardrobe take you travelling instead! |
