SKIN care products you can eat? It might sound like a crazy gimmick but, according to the creators of a new natural cosmetics range, “edible” ingredients are the future.
NOE — Natural Organic Edible Cosmetics — is an American import now over here in Waitrose supermarkets in Durham, Harrogate and Hexham.
Apparently, up to 60 per cent of whatever we plaster on our skin goes into our bloodstream, and NOE claims that, by the age of 30, we already have over 90 chemicals in our body.
Anything edible, though, can be broken down by the body and expelled, which is the philosophy behind this range.
It certainly brings a whole new meaning to “feeding your face”.
The range includes an edible lemon peel cleanser (£18, 250ml), containing jojoba oil and soy milk, an edible deep moisturising night cream (£30, 250ml) with mimosa and sweet almond oil and an edible natural rice hydrating mask (£11, 250ml) with shea butter, grapeseed oil, wheat germ oil and natural rice starch.
There’s also a daily revival cream, a coconut milk cleanser, a white tea toner and a body lotion, ranging from £16 to £28.
For new mums, there’s also a Natural Organic Edible baby wash (£4.99, 250ml) and baby shampoo (£5.99, 250ml) which are free from dyes, nut oils, gluten, soy, oat and dairy and containing rosemary, sage, yarrow, jojoba and aloe vera. If you don’t have a local Waitrose, you can order on www.noecosmetics.com or phone 0800-838670.
STICKING with natural products, trendy London spa Bliss have just launched a nutritious-sounding “home spa” treatment to gently exfoliate and rehydrate the skin.
Based on their popular carrot and sesame body buff spa treatment, the do-it-yourself de-roughing duo (£30) includes a carrot and sesame spa scrub and finishing foam.
To simulate a Bliss spa in your own bathroom, start with an in-shower top-to-toe sloughing using the scrub then step out and soften up while still steamy with the carrot and sesame finishing foam. Yum!
IF you’re worried about picking up something nasty while out and about in germ-ridden January you could try a new range of anti-bacterial products available from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury pharmacies.
Especially useful is the No-Germs Clean surface sanitizing spray . . . a pocket-sized spray you can spritz over your computer keyboard, phone or desk top, or even suspect toilet seats!. There’s also a handy hand sanitiser (both £1.99) containing aloe vera and chamomile to moisturise as it cleans.
