THE new season’s styles are slowly finding their way onto the high street rails, but if you’re not ready to embrace new season trends, there’s another way to update your look. Clear out those dowdy pants and faded bras and give your underwear repertoire a lift with some new lingerie. Lorraine Cuthbert, senior buyer at La Senza, says: “Long gone are the days of a dreary lingerie drawer. “These days, on-trend ladies are updating their lingerie drawers as often as their main wardrobes with all the season’s hottest styles and colours.” Make sure your underwear is super-flattering and it could turn your daily ensembles from drab to fab, according to Lorraine. “What’s underneath really does count,” she says. “For an instant confidence boost in any outfit, you can’t underestimate the power of well-fitting underwear.” JEWEL GEMS Who wants a drawer full of dull undies to leave you uninspired every morning? Take colour inspiration from the catwalks this upcoming season and shine in rich, jewel shades. For full-on glamour, look to La Senza’s cobalt blue Love Lace bra, £15. Or for divine dress-to-impress undies, try Implicite’s Azote Rouge push-up bra, £35, and thong, £18; or Marks & Spencer’s Ceriso purple satin frill bra, £12, and matching frill string, £4. REVEL IN ROMANCE If you like your undies more boudoir than basement-bin bargain, look to luxurious romantic lingerie styles. “We’re seeing lots of grown-up glamour in lingerie,” Lorraine says. “Look for opulent shades, luxurious fabrics and boudoir styling. Vintage laces mingle with satins and silks in glamorous jewel tones and muted hues to create a look that’s simply divine.” Embrace romance in Valisere’s Pretty Darling balconette bra, £59, and hipster, £33; or Chantilly Victorian-style set in Blush bra, £23, and thong, £8, at John Lewis. For full-on romantic florals, try Barbara Trianon’s plunge bra, £45, and shorties, £22, at Silkstorm. Fancy more of a cover-up in the bedroom? Go for Lejaby’s black lace camisole top, £70, available at Figleaves in September. SASSY PATTERNS Fun-loving ladies who crave more than block colour but something sassier than prettiness should choose daring prints. Try Floozie by Frost French print padded bra, £14, and hipsters, £6, at Debenhams, or Dorothy Perkins’ spotted lingerie set, £14. PLAIN AND SIMPLE A nude set is a must-have for white or sheer clothes. Look to Next’s Simply smoothline T-shirt bra, £17, and no-VPL thong, £5, in nude or black. If you can’t decide between black and white basics, go for monochrome, such as Matalan’s lace trim padded bra, £6, and Brazilian brief, £3. FITTING TIPS Not sure what lingerie is right for your bust and booty? Lorraine gives us the low-down on how undies can flatter your shape. A well-fitting, supportive bra makes your figure look fantastic and also gives you better posture so you’ll instantly look taller and more confident. If you haven’t been measured for a while, get yourself fitted next time you shop for bras. Get great cleavage and an instant uplift whatever your size with balconette and padded styles. Boy shorts are great for making legs look long and slim. French knickers are fabulous at disguising chunky thighs and wobbly tummies as they draw attention away.
