LUSCIOUS lashes in a trice . . . that’s the promise of a new product on the beauty counters for those of us who need a bit more flutter. Our tester, Coreena Ford, has been putting it through its paces. Here’s what she thought: “Those scientific wizards at Dermaquest Skin Therapy have created Dermalash which, they claim, can give you magic lashes, without using a mascara wand. “The treatment is said to stimulate hair follicles, turning stubby, little eyelashes like mine into ‘longer, fuller, more youthful looking lashes’ and, after three weeks of painting a line of the liquid onto the base of my lashline, I have to say that my blinkers do seem fuller, and neater. “The liquid contains panthenol and biotin, which protects the lashes, curling, pulling and strengthening them as well as a growth promoter complex that lengthens and thickens. “As promised, my lashes looked fuller after three weeks but it will take six weeks of continuous use to get the full benefits. “I found you have to be very disciplined to remember to apply the lash treatment every night on top of your normal cleansing regime . . . not easy in the middle of the festive party season I can tell you. But if you can keep it up, you’ll be rewarded and it soon becomes routine. It also encourages you to look after your lashes more too. “It’s not meant to be a replacement for mascara though and the hefty price tag of £98 may well put a lot of would-be customers off.” Readers can judge for themselves whether it’s worth the investment from Coreena’s “before and after” photographs. FINDING a glossy lipstick that doesn’t wear off after a few minutes seems as likely as Britney Spears being crowned Mum of the Year. But Max Factor has come up with a scientific breakthrough in Lipfinity Colour & Gloss — a double-ended lipstick — which provides up to 12 hours of intense cover. At one end is a basecoat which gives a bold colour and, at the other end, a coloured, shimmering glossy liquid topcoat to reflect the light and give you a perfect pout. I tried one in pink-hued Gleaming Coral. The bottom coat felt dry at first but once the top coat is brushed on, lips feel hydrated and soft. And, although it faded a little bit after eating and drinking, the effect lasts a lot longer than “normal” lip gloss. Lipfinity Colour & Gloss is available priced £8.99. Similarly, Ruby & Millie’s Glossy Lips is a sleek palette containing five nude to pink lip gloss shades which suit all colourings. Although the gloss isn’t as long-lasting as Lipfinity, you can mix the colours up in the palette to create your own perfect shade, and the smart compact with its sleek packaging is the ideal addition to a makeup bag for busy girls on the go. It’s £12 and available from Boots — SARAH ROBERTSON. MEANWHILE, Ruby and Millie’s pretty eye palette of electric blues and greens will make any girl stand out from the crowd. The peacock hues of their metallic eye colour kit complement light eyes perfectly and provide a striking contrast for darker peepers. For a more natural look, there is also Nude Eyes, which contains shades of pale gold, taupes and deep browns to create beautifully defined eyes. Both kits include two compact dual applicators and mirror for application on the go. And, at £12, they’re affordable too — CAROLINE SMITH. |
