I've never had a professional pedicure, a sin I know, for someone who likes to wear sandals. A bit of nail polish was always enough for me, but a well-heeled (should that be toed?) friend of mine said I didn't know what I was missing out on. She declared my feet would be transformed, but I was still a little suspicious about how good it could be. In the interests of research, however, I decided to throw caution to the wind and try a luxury pedicure at Serenity in the City in Jesmond to see just how my feet would be transformed. My beauty therapist Paula (owner of the longest natural eyelashes I've ever seen) made me feel relaxed immediately. She set to work filing down my feet - which is not nearly as scary as it sounds. She then put a mask on my feet. Elemis Fruit Active Rejuvenating Mask.is heavenly (I actually already use it on my face as a quick pick-me-up). My feet are then tied up in plastic bags and placed into massive heated booties. It is a strange sensation and feels a little slimy, but it's nice - like standing in warm mud. Then it is time for the foot scrub as yet more dead skin is removed, and then finally cleansing and moisturising. Work begins on my toes as the nails are filed and the cuticles pushed down. The base coat went on, followed by a fab colour and then finally the top coat and a spot of oil to help the varnish dry. Voila - I was almost asleep at points, as I found it so relaxing, and the time flew. So were my feet transformed? Yes. I was left with baby-soft and beautiful feet which I couldn't wait to show off in sandals.
