Your exclusive beauty and grooming tips from Mac cosmetics senior makeup artist, Sunderland-born Caroline Donnelly. THIS afternoon I’m packing, sorting out my make-up kit and travelling to Dublin to work at the Electric Picnic festival. I’m so excited about the weekend ahead. I don’t know which performers we are working with as yet – that I’ll find out in the morning. We are to be working in a MAC/Brown Thomas pamper area to add a bit of relaxation and glamour to what I’m sure will be a muddy event! I am going to be part of a fab team, both personally and professionally, so we’ve good fun ahead of us. So far, the weather forecast is good, so I’ll be sure to take vests and flip flops, but I know from experience that jumpers, wellies and water proofs are a must. My wish list for this weekend is: to have fun, make up and meet lots of interesting people, work with some acts, have sunshine and see some bands. Beastie Boys, Iggy Pop and The Undertones I’m hoping for, but, this is work so whatever will be, will be. It’ll be great either way. Have a good weekend! Q. I’d quite like to wear neon colours but I’m a bit scared of ending up looking like a clown – how can I wear them properly? A. Well, this is quite a FAQ (frequently asked question). A good way to wear neon is to choose a focus feature, so you don’t have it all going on at once. Applying bright colour to the lips is an easy and ‘cool’ looking way of getting this look, and it suits most people if you spend a little time choosing the right colours. MAC have a fabulous range of lipsticks and glosses for you to choose from, and as I always say, don’t be afraid to go to the counters in House of Fraser, Metro Centre and Fenwick, Newcastle and try on as many colours as you like. Lipsticks are really what made MAC famous, so as you could guess, I have a long list of colours for you to look out for; Impassioned – a hot raspberry pink, Girl About Town – a fab fuchsia, Vegas Volt, a full powered coral, Up The Amp – electrically charged lavender violet which is my personal favourite this week, along with Pink Nouveau, a light but bright pink. I love Rebel on black skins for a stunning vivid pinkish purple lip. If you want bright but prefer a sheer coverage, how about a Lustre lipstick (looks more like gloss) or gloss itself? These colours should satisfy your needs for this seasons bright; Eager lipstick, a gorgeous blushed coral, Pink Poodle Lipglass, a bright pink fuchsia with pinky gold shimmer, Pink Lemonade, a pretty flamingo colour, or Foolishly Fab Plushglass which is a light lilac pink. If you would rather apply colour to your eyes, look for; Chrome Yellow, Orange, Electric Eel, Jewel Blue, Aquadisiac, Bitter and Beautiful Iris. To keep the eyes looking modern, don’t over complicate your application. One or two colours will look more contemporary than choosing them all and creating a rainbow, however tempting!
