HIGH Meadow House is a family home brimming with charm and memories, at the heart of a village community. The detached four-bed property has a stylish blend of traditional and contemporary features.
Owners Lucy and John Holmes moved into the property in April 2003, a month before they were due to get married. They have lived there ever since, watching their family grow up around them, with the birth of their three daughters, Lottie, five, Maddy, four and Darcy, one. The house is in a fantastic location in the village of Hedley, close to Hadrian’s Wall and Hexham. “We didn’t need to do much to the house,” explained John. “My favourite room would be the farmhouse kitchen, with the Rayburn cooker. It’s very sociable and great for entertaining.” The impressive kitchen boasts a mix of traditional farmhouse style with all the mod cons of a contemporary build. It has stone mullion windows, a 26ft lounge with a feature fireplace, and a dining hall, which opens out on to the stone patio via double-glazed French doors. The property has off-road parking to the front, a tiled entrance lobby, utility room and a storage room converted from the garage. Upstairs, the house has four large bedrooms and a main bathroom, with the master bedroom including an en-suite bathroom. All bedrooms have built-in wardrobes. The rear garden is ideal for both children and hosting parties. “When we first moved in there was just the two of us,” he says. “Then my three daughters were born. What I will remember is the walks with my daughters through the local countryside. You can’t buy views like those.” The idyllic local area includes amenities such as shops and schools and the Feathers Inn pub is the centre of village life. John added: “The main reason for moving is my work, I’m a doctor at Durham University Hospital and we need to be closer to the hospital. If we didn’t need to move, we wouldn’t.” High Meadow House, Hedley, Stocksfield, is for sale through Your Move at £420,000. Tel 01661 833865. |
