RETIRED pharmacist Allen Tweedie and his wife have combined all the right ingredients to come up with their dream home that is now for sale.
Having a helping hand in the layout of their custom-built property has brought Mr Tweedie and his wife great satisfaction. But now they are moving on, making way for a new owner of this exclusive pad. The impressive home has one of the North East’s most exclusive addresses in Darras Hall, Northumberland. Mr Tweedie explains that it is the ill health of a family member that has prompted the move which, he says, will not be made without a great deal of regret. He said: "We had the property built for our retirement. It is only a year old and we had a hand in deciding the layout." The beautifully presented home has extensive living accommodation, including a spacious entrance hall with a feature staircase and chandelier – one of Allen’s personal highlights. There is a downstairs cloaks/wc, a formal dining room, drawing room leading through to the garden room, family sitting room and fabulous bespoke kitchen/breakfast room with stunning views over the south-facing back garden. The ground floor also includes a utility room and an integral double garage. The whole of the ground floor area is set on Bison flooring. On the first floor, there is a spacious landing, an en suite master bedroom with Juliet balcony and two double bedrooms – also with en suites. Bedrooms four and five – one currently being used as a study – both have access to a Jack and Jill bathroom. The detached family home occupies a mature site extending to circa 0.4 of an acre with a well-established, south-facing back garden adjoining the conservation area known locally as the grasslands. The large gardens were particularly important to the couple who have helped to design the now landscaped area. Allen said: "We are particularly interested in gardening and the property now has quite beautiful landscaping." Despite the home being a personal dream for the pair, Allen says that it will still most certainly appeal to a range of buyers – particularly those looking for a family home, or those looking to regularly have friends and family staying over. He said: "A main feature of the property is that four of the bedrooms have en suites. The fifth bedroom – that is currently being used as a study – also has access to an en suite. "The property would suit those with a family, but we love it because we do a lot of entertaining with our family from the south coming to stay with us." The property is also neutrally decorated throughout, meaning that prospective buyers have scope to put their own personal stamp on it. Allen said: "We do prefer quite plain interiors so there’s no question about it; there’s ample scope for buyers to have it decorated in a style that is suitable for them. We have done nothing that is irrevocable." The property is within easy walking distance of local schools, shops and amenities. Newcastle city centre is about 15 minutes by car and Newcastle International Airport is also within easy reach. Allen added: "Darras Hall is a lovely rural setting, and this property in particular backs on to a conservation area meaning that it can never be overlooked. "We are going to be quite upset to leave ... it’s going to be a real wrench to leave this property behind." 73 Middle Drive, Darras Hall, Northumberland, is for sale through Dobsons with a guide price of £995,950, tel: (01661) 872111. |
