POPULAR with families and young professionals, one suburb of Newcastle has plenty to offer.
Homebuyers are drawn to Jesmond in search of its cosmopolitan vibes, rather than its Victorian charm, from its bars and restaurants lining both sides of Osborne Road and Lindisfarne Road, to its coffee houses and grand hotels. It’s become the ‘in’ place to be for party-goers, particularly at weekends, and is ideal for those who can’t stretch to city living, but who want to be on its doorstep. The area offers plenty for families too, with the likes of the petting zoo in the form of Pets’ Corner, which is in Jesmond Dene, to fine restaurants, such as The Fisherman’s Lodge. If you fancy a stroll at the weekend, Armstrong Bridge craft fair is held on Sunday mornings and is worth a look. The dene stretches for three kilometres between Paddy Freeman’s Park in High Heaton and Jesmond. Jesmond Dene House is a hotel popular with those looking to escape the daily grind. It is a Grade II listed building, dating from 1822. Jesmond not only caters for city professionals hoping to buy property. There are also plenty of homes to let available for the student population – and it’s a great area for investors. Some larger properties command figures of up to £1m although there is also a market for those with smaller budgets too, in the form of apartments and older terraced homes. Most popular are probably the conversion properties with high ceilings and period features that have been modified to create grand spaces. These are priced around the £180,000 mark and can move upwards to £220,000 in the Brandling Village area. The lower end of the market offers Tyneside flats in Jesmond, with prices around £160,000, and they always sell well to first-time buyers. There are schools, shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep, as are churches and open spaces. There are good transport links serving the surrounding area with plenty of buses, Metros and taxis close at hand. Sharon Lambert of the Newcastle branch of Pattinson, which covers Jesmond, said: “Jesmond is one of our most requested locations to live with applicants registering to buy or to rent, as the area appeals to everybody. “It’s popular with students, professionals and also families young and old. Whatever you need, Jesmond caters for everyone with numerous bars and restaurants on Osborne Road for a lively night out. “Alternatively, you could have a relaxing Sunday afternoon stroll in Jesmond Dene with your family. Located just outside the city centre, it is also just minutes from the heart of Newcastle on the Metro.’’ |
