WITH huge benefits for families with children, Cramlington has everything on the doorstep.
As well as excellent schools for youngsters of all ages, the area has a good shopping centre, retail park, leisure facilities and plenty of pubs and restaurants. A cycle track weaves through many of the estates, such as Parkside, Eastfield and Northburn within the town, making it a good choice for those who prefer to leave the car behind. There are excellent public transport links into the city centre via rail and bus. A train from Cramlington Station into Newcastle takes just 10 minutes, while the bus takes about 20 minutes. Good schools include the recently built and ultra-modern Junior Learning Village in the grounds of Cramlington’s high school which is proving a welcome addition with families. Eateries such as the Lal Qila Indian restaurant in Dudley Lane, Cramlington, and the Aphrodite Greek restaurant at the Brockwell Centre have built upon their reputations and are regular haunts for locals at the weekend. Booking in advance is advisable. Good pubs include The Blagdon Arms, which has a beer garden and is situated in the heart of the village, The Plough, which is good for weddings and birthday parties, The Brockwell Seam and The Snowy Owl, in Blagdon Lane. There is a doctors’ surgery, barber shop, social club and veterinary surgery in the old village centre, while plenty of green spaces and good areas for children to play are a bonus. There’s always a warm welcome to be had from the Rev Adele Moorhouse at Cramlington Methodist Chapel in Station Terrace and also at St Nicholas’ Church in the centre of Cramlington village. There are tennis courts, a state-of-the-art sports centre in the grounds of the high school and Concordia Leisure Centre which offers a range of sporting facilities from swimming to football, aerobics to an indoor climbing wall. |
