Around the region: Cleadon Village
May 9 2009
With its historic connections and the fact it’s a well-known haunt of the rich and famous, Cleadon Village is an affluent area to live. Aranda Garrard discovers more.
CLEADON Village, with its quaint charm and character lies not far from the bustling city of Sunderland.
It is where Charles Dickens once resided, and where the rich and famous still set up home – making it a truly affluent area to live.
It may only have a population of about 5,000, but this small village spells out grandeur.
Its location means it’s great for a number of buyers, including professional types who commute to the surrounding areas, and those with a love of coastal and country walks.
Lynn Kirkley, manager of the Sunderland branch of Pattinson, which covers the Cleadon area, said: “Cleadon is close to all major road and bus links for Sunderland city centre, South Shields and Newcastle, and only a short distance to the seafront for Whitburn and Seaburn.
“Cleadon Village is a highly desirable area and has a lot of prestigious homes, and also plenty of family accommodation.
“There are good local schools within the area, and house prices average about £200,000 for a three-bedroom home, with larger homes usually well above that.
“However, as with most other areas, we are seeing a decline in house prices.”
Cleadon has many boutiques and local stores, and is only a short walk from East Boldon Metro station. It is about 10 miles from Newcastle and five miles from Sunderland.
