Spring clean beds and borders, digging out weeds and cutting down dead stems of perennials left from last autumn.
Mulch beds and borders once you’ve weeded and while the soil is still moist, to reduce watering and weeding later in the year.
Prune roses before this year’s new growth is well developed.
Check borders for plant losses, and plan to fill any gaps.
Divide congested clumps of border perennials before they make a lot of new growth.

Fix additional trellis, mend any broken pieces and tie in new stems as climbing plants grow.
