Portuguese football legend Eusebio admits that Greece have confounded everyone's expectations in Euro 2004, but believes Portugal can still beat them in today's final to lift the Henri Delaunay Trophy. Eusebio believes the Portuguese are a different side to the one that lost 2-1 to Greece in the opening match of the tournament in Porto. "The Greek team have been the biggest surprise of the tournament," said Eusebio who was tournament top scorer in 1966 when Portugal lost in the World Cup semi-final to England. "Step by step, they have improved with every game and have been helped by the tactics of their coach (Otto Rehhagel). "In the semi-final everyone thought the Czechs would win but especially after (Pavel) Nedved's injury the Greeks came good - that was an important moment." But he does not believe that Greece's win in the opening match will have any bearing on the game. Eusebio said: "Without doubt the players were very, very nervous in the first match and then Scolari, a world champion, made the changes that needed to be made. "That is the decision for the coach and Scolari put us on the right path." |
