Staff at a special Northumberland crèche for dogs are putting their backs into some of the more unusual aspects of health and safety as part of a unique training programme.
Doggy Days Crèche allows owners to leave their pets in safe hands while they are at work.
The business, in Cramlington, currently employs ten people, all of whom will undergo the training.
The programme will include a course in the safe handling and lifting of dogs and all aspects of health and safety, in particular the risk assessment involved.
The crèche has room for up to 25 dogs in any one session and provides dogs with mental stimulation and outdoor exercise while owners are at work.
The training, delivered by High Gain Business Consultancy, is being funded by North East employer training pilot eQ8, which supports companies that want to train staff over 19 up to NVQ Level 2.
The scheme offers wage compensation to reimburse employers for the cost of releasing employees during normal working hours, with particular help for smaller firms.
The Learning and Skills Council is now offering eQ8 across the entire region, after piloting it successfully in Tyne Wear.
Paula McArthur, the proprietor of Doggy Days, said: "The training is vital for staff as the business is developing beyond all our expectations. The training has been tailored to exactly suit our needs and I know it will greatly benefit staff and customers."
Chris Roberts, regional director of the Learning and Skills Council said: "eQ8 is working to enable businesses like Doggy Days to make training more readily available for their staff no matter how unique the requirements."
