A North East organisation is extending its search for recruits to include people aged over 50.
Dementia Care Partnership, the Newcastle-based provider of specialist services to people with dementia, is boosting its teams of support workers who provide a home support service to 200 clients and carers every week, thus enabling people with dementia to be supported in their own homes rather than going into residential care.
Rani Svanberg, director of the Dementia Care Partnership and a recent winner of the Voluntary Sector Entrepreneur of the Year Award, said today: "We are looking for support workers of all ages and backgrounds, including mature workers in the age range 50-plus from all parts of the North East region. People from diverse backgrounds bring fresh ideas, thinking, and approaches, resulting in exceptional service delivery. Support workers play a key role in delivering one of our major services - enabling people with dementia and other health-related problems to stay in the comfort of their own home."
Special training is given and there are opportunities for career advancement and further training.
Mrs Svanberg added: "We have many instances at DCP of promotion-from-within. For example, a former librarian who joined us as a support worker at the age of 48 is now working in a supervisory post. There are opportunities for support workers to progress to such roles as team leaders, trainers, and co-ordinators."
