Sold on laughs

Soapy Business: Through the Mangle! by John Solomon, £7.99.

Soapy Business is a book that reminds us of the days when salespeople had to think on their feet and overcome the impossible, battling not only snowdrifts, rainstorms and gales but also determined and hardened shop owners, who counted their pennies like we count our notes.

A thoroughly entertaining and light-hearted read based on the true events of Thomas Hedley salesman John Solomon, who, from a standing start, became a master craftsman at his chosen profession.

A very funny true story that is just the job for that Christmas read.

A gem of nostalgia

An excellent Christmas gift for Remember When readers is available through the Evening Chronicle front reception, where you can get Remember When Volume 2 and Volume 1 for only £9.99, along with Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End in the Images of England series, £12.99.

You can also order these books over the phone or by post with postage and packing extra.
