Denis Cassidy, former office boy at Dunlop in Newcastle's Haymarket, became one of Britain's leading businessmen.
He joined British Home Stores in 1969 and was appointed a director in 1973, later becoming managing director and chairman until he left in 1987. He subsequently became a director and chairman of many companies, including Boddingtons, Gillow plc, SEEBOARD, BAA, Compass Group, Newcastle United and many others.
Denis, author of the book The Way Things Were: A Backstreet Boyhood, will speak about his boyhood in Newcastle at St Mary's Cathedral on Wednesday, January 25, at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
He will be introduced by Sir Bobby Robson and afterwards Denis will sign copies of his book in the Cathedral Bookshop.
