A teenager who has travelled 6,000 miles to experience an English education has scooped top marks in his first set of exams.
Yukwan Siu came from Hong Kong to Newcastle last September to do his A-levels at Newcastle College, and yesterday scored four A grades in his AS exams.
The 18-year-old - known as Jackie - has left his family behind to study in Newcastle, and hopes to get a place at either Cambridge or the London School of Economics after doing his A-levels next year. "I had to get used to living on my own but I like a challenge," he said. "People in Hong Kong told me that the Geordie people were very friendly and that was one of the reasons I came to study here."
Jackie scored top marks in maths, physics, chemistry and accounting.
