YOUNGSTERS will be showing off dance and music skills acquired at holiday arts workshops in two performances this month.
The Arts Factory programme of summer events, organised by Newcastle City Council’s arts development team, will get young people from across the city involved in arts and dance at workshops taking place over the next few weeks. Participants will then show off their skills in special performances at The Sage Gateshead on Sunday and on the community stage of the Newcastle Mela event on August 27.
The programme will include Bollywood dance, hip-hop, DJ-ing, rapping, steel drumming and singing. The youngsters will also be involved in designing their costumes and stage sets.
The theme of this year's project is East Meets West and is aimed at making youngsters more aware of different culture and bringing people from different parts of the city together.
Councillor Nick Cott, executive member for children and young people for Newcastle City Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to develop their artistic talents and to learn about different cultures during the summer holidays.
