SHEEP farmers are being offered the opportunity to Win A Ram this autumn in a Journal competition being launched on Saturday. Once again, the paper has teamed up with the Dextomax Kelso Ram Sales and one lucky reader will have the opportunity to spend £1,000 on a ram or rams of their choice at the sale. There will also be two runners-up prizes of £500, to spend at the ram sales. Although there is still a livestock movement ban in place because of the foot-and-mouth outbreak in Surrey, the organisers of the Kelso Ram Sale hope that the event will go ahead. Ron Wilson, of the Border Union Agricultural Society, which organises the sale, said: “We hope that we can proceed as planned and that the sale will go ahead on Friday, September 14. However, we are aware that the movement restrictions imposed because of the foot-and-mouth outbreak may affect the event, which is why we have drawn together contingency plans, enabling us to hold the sale at a later date which is as close to the scheduled date as possible. “Everyone in the farming world hopes that this outbreak will be contained and eradicated as soon as possible so that we can all get back to normal. In the meantime, we are continuing as planned. I’m busy allocating the rings and the ballot will take place next Thursday morning.” The Journal will be launching its Win A Ram competition this Saturday. If for any reason the Kelso Ram Sales do not go ahead then the winners will still receive their prize money, enabling them to buy their rams at a later date. |
