The "skilled and erudite" Robert Langley heads Watson Burton LLP's premier construction practice, which was boosted by two senior solicitors in 2005. The focus is primarily contentious; the team is adept at advising an impressive array of heavyweight regional and national construction clients on the full range of disputes, and is on The National Federation of Builders' panel. The firm is poised to build on its non-contentious practice, which is spearheaded by projects specialist Roddy Gordon. Mark Lawton is highly recommended. Dickinson Dees has a strong construction practice, acting for notable clients such as Carillion Construction and Balfour Beatty. Head of the group Simon Lewis specialises in PFI dispute resolution. In 2005 the team advised a mechanical and electrical sub-contractor on ongoing disputes with a main contractor on a major central government PFI project. On the advisory side, 2005 saw a ramping up of construction funding, property, energy, infrastructure and projects work. Highlight instructions included acting for the University of Durham on a major £18m student accommodation project. Ian Atkinson is recommended. In 2005, it successfully pitched for three new health PFIs, working in conjunction with the firm's projects team. Other noteworthy instructions included advising Middlesbrough College on a £38m relocation project. The team's disputes capability has been enhanced by the addition of the "skilled" Mary Anne Roff, formerly of Robert Muckle LLP. On the contentious side, the firm has experience in representing engineering clients in hearings before the Technology and Construction Court.
