SMEs take pride of place

May 24 2007

By The Journal

Work has started on a multi-million pound commercial property development aimed at SMEs.

Ravensworth Property Developments LLP has started the speculative Greensquare scheme for offices and industrial units at Kirkleatham Business Park at Redcar, Tees Valley.

The first phase of the Ryder HKS-designed scheme is 35,000sqft and includes nine offices and eight light industrial units, aimed specifically at the SME market.

Regional development agency One NorthEast is providing financial assistance via Tees Valley Partnership, and it is hoped that more than 130 jobs will be created upon completion in October 2007.

Ravensworth Property Developments development manager Geoff Clark said: "Greensquare has been developed to build on the success of Kirkleatham Innovation Centre, by offering high quality, flexible business space for sale or to let.

"The support offered by One NorthEast has allowed Ravensworth to develop the buildings and external space to the highest standards of sustainable design."

The two-storey offices are being developed in a range of sizes, from 1,986sqft to 5,650sqft, and the industrial accommodation ranges from 1,250sqft to 6,700sqft.

One NorthEast director of regeneration John Holmes said: "The units at Greensquare offer high-quality accommodation to expanding small and medium sized companies, and I understand a number have been snapped up by entrepreneurs who can see the potential of a move to the site.

"Business parks like this are vital if this region wants to secure its place at the forefront of business and industry."

Kirkleatham Business Park is two miles from Redcar town centre and has a direct dual carriageway link to the national motorway network.

Tees Valley Partnership programme manager Martin Simpson said: "Kirkleatham Business Park has proved one of the real success stories for our area. Already it has made a significant contribution to our efforts to widen our economic base through encouraging the creation of more business start-ups.

"The Ravensworth development will provide a significant addition to facilities available for new and expanding companies and is another expression of confidence in Kirkleatham Business Park and the Tees Valley as a whole."

Greensquare is being marketed by sole letting agent, Sanderson Weatherall.
